Our Professional Development Calendar is filled with opportunities that will help you start the school year off right. Our picks this month are ones that will help you learn the skills you need to have a smooth and well-run classroom.

October 7 – 8, 2013; Boys Town, NE, Well-Managed Schools; Previously "The Well-Managed Classroom," this workshop presents a model of teaching social skills across the academic curriculum, which enables students to assume responsibility for managing their own behavior. Boys Town; ($375).

Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 4 pm; Webinar, Bullying Behavior: Prevention and Intervention; This webinar provides background information related to bullying, briefly highlights critical components of state and federal law, and introduces the complexities associated with the bullying dynamic, especially related to students with disabilities. Council for Exceptional Children ($69 - $114).

Thursday, October 10, 2 pm; Webinar, Developing Intrinsic Motivation in Students; This webinar provides teaching strategies to sustain students' levels of interest and effort. Education Week ($49).

Thursday October 10, 7 pm; Webinar, Children's 'Misbehavior' – and How to Respond Effectively; This Webinar will help you recognize common goals of misbehavior in your students and/or children, and explore non-punitive techniques for redirecting that behavior so that children can react to their experiences, and ask for what they need, in ways that are positive, appropriate and self-empowering. American Montessori Society ($45 - $65).

Tuesday, October 22, 4 pm; Webinar, Students Who Are Bullied: Prevention and Intervention; This webinar addresses the pervasiveness of bullying among the nation's youth, including particular subgroups of students with disabilities. Specific school, group, and individual strategies for supporting the social and emotional development of students with and without disabilities are discussed. Council for Exceptional Children ($69 – $114).
