NCTQ Releases Changes to Teacher Prep Review
posted by: Ruthie | January 07, 2014, 09:25 PM

Last June, the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) released its first ever Teacher Prep Review Report. It’s considered an unprecedented evaluation of more than 1,100 colleges and universities that prepare teachers and gives stakeholders a snapshot of their programs. AAE
endorsed the report as an innovative consumer tool, allowing aspiring teachers, parents and school districts to compare programs.

In an effort to keep the evaluations accurate, NCTQ recently released amendments to certain grades. NCTQ released a blog, correcting 68 scores, and 23 overall program ratings. The report stated:

“Having made over 16,000 scoring decisions over the course of the Review, the mistakes we have found amount to an error rate of .4 percent. But this is still too high. So we've strengthened our training and scoring protocols to address common sources of error, and we've intensified our quality control processes… We regret every mistake we made and pledge to do better in future editions.”

We applaud NCTQ’s efforts to amend the report and rectify errors. While the report can be controversial in some circles, teacher preparation reform is at the heart of ensuring all students have an effective teacher.
