Every year thousands of teachers leave their positions due to retirement, family commitments, advancement to a new position, or relocation.  Many others walk into teacher job fairs and schools across the nation trying to earn a spot as their replacement.

This shuffling of the teaching workforce happens each spring and it means that some AAE members are currently in the process of trying to find a new position.  Many of these are our student members, fresh out of college and just beginning down a career path that may even see them through retirement.  Others are practiced and experienced teachers who are looking for a new or different position.

Whatever one’s level of experience, there are excellent resources where prospective teachers can find help during the job-search process.  Check out the following sites:

• Kappa Delta Pi’s webpage features advice for education students searching for their first job.  Much of what they have is also helpful to experienced teachers.
• Learnovation is a site that allows job seekers to create online portfolios.
• Confessions of a Teacher Recruiter gives job hunters advice that comes straight from the person sitting on the opposite side of the desk.
• TeacherVision’s job search resources features a Job Search Organizer that can be printed out or recreated digitally, along with a very helpful article about what to consider before accepting a position.
• AAE has job listings for its members.  AAE’s Job Bank is a members-only resource that helps teachers find high-quality schools who subscribe to AAE’s Code of Ethics.  AAE members can sign up online to receive job listings right in their email each week.  Schools who want to learn more about listing their positions with AAE can do so by emailing profdev@aaeteachers.org.
