As well as being National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-8, 2010, is National Charter Schools Week. Read President Obama's proclamation here.

AAE is a fervent supporter of charter schools and charter school teachers. In commemoration of this important week, AAE's Executive Director has released this statement:

"Your work is appreciated. This week, AAE officially recognizes the growing charter school community and the constant efforts of those involved with these excellent educational institutions. As teachers, administrators, communities, parents, and students your work deserves a most hearty and heartfelt 'thank you'! Your work will not soon be forgotten.

"We at AAE earnestly celebrate these schools not only for stellar educational practices, but also as beacons on the front of school reform. They consistently place the interests of children first and provide quality education for all, especially for those in most need. We encourage all lawmakers to take an active stand in America’s future— our students—by funding and supporting charter schools and their teachers. These public schools of choice are providing paths to a brighter future for countless students around the country. Keep it up!"
