Let's Talk About School Safety

Educators fill a critical role when it comes to providing a sense of safety and security to our nation's most vulnerable segment of the population...our children. The dust hasn't yet settled in Orlando and many students are asking questions trying to piece together rationale for why the world can be such a scary, unpredictable place.

In light of these recent events, we thought this would be a good time to discuss school safety not just in terms of gun violence, but in a multitude of situations. We can't always answer the 'why?', but what we CAN do is make sure we're giving our students the tools they need to stay safe when they themselves face an emergency.

The following resources provide excellent materials covering some of the most common school safety concerns faced by schools across the U.S. We hope they'll come in handy in your school's crisis planning initiatives for the coming school year...

How do YOU instill a sense of school safety into your classroom?
