Although everything is up for debate in the world of education, one thing that is crystal clear is the effect of good teachers on student achievement.  The science remains consistent: quality teachers have the biggest effect on student learning.

This is why AAE was proud to work with other education groups in speaking up to ensure that students in every classroom have access to a high quality teacher.  AAE, along with groups like Kappa Delta Pi, the Association of Teacher Educators, Alpha Delta Kappa, and numerous other education and teacher organizations, has signed on to a statement to ensure recruitment of a high quality and diverse teacher workforce and  rigorous standards in teacher education programs.

As said in the statement, “Teaching is a highly rewarding career choice; yet a diminishing number of students are electing to join the profession. Since 2008, enrollment in teacher preparation has declined nationally by 30%, and the number of high-achieving undergraduate students who are considering a career in education is at the lowest level in decades. This is cause for serious concern. As policy makers and other stakeholders focus on reducing income inequality, access to a quality education that includes a great teacher in every classroom for all students is a requisite part of the solution.”

AAE is proud to support high quality educators and is looking forward to working with our members to make sure that every student has access to great teaching.
