Mr. Andrew Palmer, a teacher at Lathrop Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri and longtime AAE member, was one of the many deserving educators to receive a national grant from the AAE Foundation last month. Mr. Palmer teaches 7th and 8th grade reading and applied for a grant to supplement his classroom library. "Students in my classroom are required to read 25 books independently this year," said Mr. Palmer. "Our community has no library and our school library is severely lacking. These books will add to my current collection of 200." Mr. Palmer was excited to report that his first round of books has been delivered and he was able to capitalize on some amazing offers from Scholastic. "I have 7000+ bonus points to spend next month with Scholastic! So there will be another round of books to come!" AAE would like to congratulate Andrew on his commitment to his students. Expanding a library for middle school student is certainly a worthy cause. Future classes will benefit for years to come. Don’t forget to apply for the next round of scholarship and grant opportunities. Teacher scholarships and classroom grants are competitive awards available to all educators. Apply online or by mail to receive up to $500 for professional development or classroom materials. The spring deadline is March 1,2011.
