EduCore is Help for the Common Core

For teachers looking for tools to help them implement Common Core standards, ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) has created a perfect website. Teaming up with the Gates Foundation, they've created EduCore, a one stop shop for information and resources about the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

The main site is divided into three sections: Information, Literacy Tools, and Math. The first section, information, tries to help teachers of all backgrounds and subjects understand the standards, the reasoning behind them, and how best to implement them. The other two sections are specific for the subject areas they entail.

The site provides endless resources for educators. Among the best are background videos which give key information about the reasoning behind the CCSS and how they can be implemented, even across subject area lines. A glossary explains terms used in the Common Core that might be new to teachers and points to resources on the site that revolve around that term. Web resources, like templates, help create tasks that reinforce the objectives the CCSS try to emphasize. There are even whole lesson and unit plans that have been created around the standards.

On the site, teachers can organize their findings by creating journal entries and by saving the resources to a "My Resources" tab. Using a unique log-in system, educators can customize and catalog their own tools and refer back to the site as often as they wish while implementing the new standards.
