AAE Releases 2011 Member Survey

Today the 2011 annual membership survey was released by the Association of American Educators. The survey was conducted this summer, polling AAE members from all 50 states on issues relating to education and labor reform. Survey results showed shifting attitudes toward policies including school choice, technology, attracting new teachers to the workforce, and collective bargaining. Continue Reading...

There are few topics more polarizing than gun control and the proper usage of hand guns, especially when children are involved. According to the National Safety Council, nearly nine children are killed daily due to firearms. While the statistics vary from year to year, the debate over gun safety and appropriate use of firearms for children, if any, rages on. Member Mention: Educator Pursues Leadership Role with AAEF Scholarship

Ms. Julia Gumminger, a teacher at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth in Baltimore, Maryland, was awarded a scholarship by the Association of American Educators Foundation to help supplement the costs of attending graduate classes at the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. The courses are part of a graduate program in management and will prepare Ms. Gumminger for a role in administration at her current school. Continue Reading...
 
NEA & AFT Ties to Occupy Wall Street Protests

Since the class warfare message of the Occupy Wall Street protests started nearly two months ago, the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers have taken every chance possible to align themselves in solidarity with the group of mostly underemployed college students and left-leaning activists. With AFT President Randi Weingarten joining in on protests and affiliates in Kentucky and Missouri taking part in protests of their own, the teacher unions are quick to point out that "public education, teachers and unions have increasingly come under attack from the One Percent."
