The Association of American Educators (AAE) supports and serves thousands and thousands educators and staff at all types of schools, including public district schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, parochial schools, independent schools, and online schools.

This week is National School Choice Week. AAE signs onto National School Choice Week each year to celebrate the choices teachers make and the schools where they work so hard to serve our students. This year AAE members throughout the country ordered over 500 school choice week event kits. Thousands of yellow scarves will be waving from state capitols and classrooms from coast to coast. What a celebration of educators, students, and learning!

There is much to celebrate during National School Choice Week. Children nationwide are benefiting from quality public schools, robust open district enrollment programs, innovative charter schools, and flexible blended learning environments. Countless children attend magnet schools or special programs in their neighborhood school because that fits their unique needs. Students attend career and technical academies hoping to graduate better prepared in a vocation. Let’s not forget the at-risk students getting a second chance at schools equipped to help them succeed.

National School Choice Week started in 2011 to provide a positive focus on ensuring all students have access to an excellent education. That first year there were 150 events. This year, NSCW president Andrew Campanella reported that more than 32,000 events are planned. What do these events look like? There are rallies at state capitols, including Arkansas, Georgia, and Idaho, gatherings at city halls, like the one in Colorado Springs. We’ll see entire schools performing the official NSCW dance, at places like Leadership Prep School in Frisco, TX. There are pizza parties, open houses, movie nights, school choice panel discussions, and so much more. There is no wrong way to celebrate teachers and school choice!

How will you be celebrating effective education options for kids and the teachers who make them possible?
