posted by: Ruthie | May 08, 2013, 07:39 PM

Welcome to the Association of American Educators' online biweekly publication, Reform Matters. This education reform-focused publication features both original AAE content and a compilation of the latest news from the growing education reform community.

As the largest national non-union professional association for educators, AAE is a non-partisan choice for teachers across the country. We are proud to be member-driven and only take positions on issues after our members are surveyed at a majority. The studies, articles, and policies showcased in this newsletter have not necessarily been endorsed by AAE; however, by sharing new and innovative trends in education policy, we hope to educate and empower our members by examining new possibilities in education.

Feel free to forward this email on to colleagues, or encourage them to join our email list. We hope that you will provide us with feedback and consider submitting an article or study for consideration.

AAE Celebrates Teachers and Charter Schools This Week

This week, May 5-11, 2013, is both National Teacher Appreciation Week and National Charter Schools Week. AAE is pleased to recognize inspiring educators and to celebrate the growing national public charter school movement, this week and every week.

As you know, AAE is not only a committed supporter of hard-working teachers but of public charter schools as well. As the leader of the national non-union educator movement, AAE is committed to supporting teachers in all education settings by promoting professionalism, collaboration and excellence without a partisan agenda. This week is a special occasion for all of our members!

In commemoration of this important week in education, AAE's Executive Director Gary Beckner released the following statements:

"Everyone can pinpoint a remarkable teacher who made a considerable impact on their lives - both academically and personally. During National Teacher Appreciation Week, we encourage stakeholders across the country to celebrate educators who change lives, ignite passions, and set positive examples every day for their students. The Association of American Educators commends teachers who give their lives to their students. Your work is not forgotten and is greatly appreciated!

This week, AAE is pleased to recognize the growing public charter school community and the efforts of those involved in stewarding these innovative institutions. In the past few months, we have seen tremendous strides in expansion of charter schools across the country and we eagerly anticipate further advancements in the charter school movement. AAE joins with parents and students in thanking these teachers and administrators who make these life-changing schools possible."
