Many states have tax-free weekends over the summer months and yours may be just around the corner. These weekends are a critical time for thousands of educators across the nation who start the school year without enough supplies and need to stock up on a budget. But even for those who are lucky enough to get the supplies they need to last the school year, these weekends can be just as important for those living on a teacher's salary.
Here's a list of participating states, the dates of their respective tax-free weekend, and the items covered under each state's holiday:
Alabama - clothing, computers, books, school supplies, August 5-7
Arkansas - clothing, school supplies, August 6-7
Connecticut - clothing and footwear, August 21-27
Florida - school supplies, clothing, computers, August 5-7
Georgia - school supplies, clothing, computers, July 30-31
Iowa - clothing, August 5-6
Louisiana - personal property less than $2500, August 5-6
Maryland - clothing & footwear, August 14-20
Mississippi - clothing & footwear, July 29-30
Missouri - clothing, computers, school supplies, August 5-7
New Mexico - clothing, computers, computer equipment, school supplies, August 5-7
Ohio - clothing and school supplies, August 5-7
Oklahoma - clothing, August 5-7
South Carolina - clothing, school supplies, computers, August 5-7
Tennessee - clothing, school supplies, computers, July 29-31
Texas - clothing, backpacks and school supplies, August 5-7
Virginia - clothing, school supplies, August 5-7
