AAE Scholarship Sends Teacher to Kindergarten Conference
posted by: Melissa | February 06, 2020, 08:11 PM

Every year, AAE awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to help educators attain the professional development they need as they grow in their careers. This past year, some of those funds were awarded to Hollie Carroll so she could attend the 2020 California Kindergarten Conference. Here are her reflections of that opportunity and the lasting results.

It was quite a valuable experience to attend the California Kindergarten Conference! The conference sessions were packed with new and interesting ideas for teaching in the early elementary grade levels. I learned many new ways to re-energize activities and lessons I already do in my classroom. I was also exposed to so many new ideas. Staying fresh and creative is always a challenge as one continues to teach for many years. The California Kindergarten Conference has helped me to be a better educator by reinvigorating my teaching.

I think the most positive impact this has had on my students is that it has helped me to continue to be excited about my teaching. When an educator is excited and engaging, students see and feel that and it is contagious.

As an educator at a small public charter school, our school would not have been able to bear the cost of sending me to this conference. The scholarship I received from AAE made it possible for me to attend this conference and gain new strategies and ideas to enhance my teaching. I think this scholarship program is especially beneficial to educators at small school sites with limited budgets. Thank you so much!

AAE is proud to support great and innovative educators like Ms. Carroll through our Teacher Scholarship and Classroom Grant program. Our national program accepts submissions twice a year and awards up to $500 for each selected proposal. The next deadline for submission is March 1, 2020. Interested educators can apply at: http://www.aaeteachers.org/awards. States with a state chapter also sponsor a Teacher Scholarship and Classroom Grant program. Check your state chapter website for more information and deadlines.
