Ms. Stephanie Proud, a teacher at Providence Hall Charter School in Herriman, Utah, was awarded an AAEF scholarship to outfit her classroom with new writing supplies. The funding will allow Ms. Proud to create a permanent writing center in the classroom, complete with a post office, a variety of writing utensils and materials, including individual whiteboards, student journals, and bookmaking supplies. AAE Director of Professional Development Jill Newell was on hand to deliver her certificate personally alongside her principal.

proudstephanie"The most effective way I have found to teach my students how to read (and love reading) is by teaching them to write," said Ms. Proud, a kindergarten teacher. "These materials will be available for my students to use as they desire, fostering their individual ways of learning and exposing them to new forms of writing."

AAE would like to congratulate Ms. Proud on her commitment to her students. Creating a writing center for her classroom is a fantastic way to engage her young pupils. Great job!
