Mr. Matthew Cotton, a teacher at the Alliance Marc and Eva Stern Math and Science School in Los Angeles, has been awarded a scholarship by the Association of American Educators Foundation to supplement the cost of tuition for a doctoral program in music education at the University of Southern California. AAEF Chairman and AAE Executive Director Gary Beckner delivered the certificate personally during a school staff meeting.

"The learning theories presented in my music education program at USC have been vital to the improvement of my craft as a teacher," said Mr. Cotton an 11th and 12th grade music teacher. "Additionally, the scholarship will allow me to conduct high quality research in the area of music education in charter schools; a research topic with very little study."

AAEF applauds the dedication that Mr. Cotton has demonstrated in advancing his education and his role in conducting research for the charter school movement. His coursework is sure to make an immediate impact with his students and school community at large. Great job!

AAEF teacher scholarships and classroom grants are competitive awards available to all educators. Apply online or by mail to receive up to $500 for professional development or classroom materials. Be sure to mark your calendar for the spring date: March 1, 2012.
