NCTQ Releases 2014 Teacher Prep Review Report

Today the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) released its annual ranking of teacher prep programs, with US News and World Report as the publisher. The list ranks 1,668 elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs across the country.

According to a new South Carolina law signed last week by Governor Nikki Haley, third graders who fail to demonstrate reading proficiency on a state test well be held back starting in the 2017-18 school year. The new law is designed to hold back students who are not meeting basic reading requirements.

Indiana Teacher Evaluations: Unfair?

According to recent reports, the State Board of Education, lawmakers, and education policy experts deemed the results – only 2% of educators in Indiana are in need of improvement – as “too good to be true.”

Teacher Tenure in Kansas

This weekend, the Kansas Legislature passed HB 2506, a school funding bill that included policy changes to teacher tenure. Among the many education reform provisions, the state is expected to increase K-12 education spending by 129 million dollars and allow easier paths to the classroom for degreed professionals. Governor Brownback has expressed support for the bill and will most likely sign it into law.   Continue Reading...
