Association of American Educators Celebrates National Charter Schools Week 2020

Mission Viejo, CA – The Association of American Educators (AAE), a national, nonunion, professional association serving educators in all fifty states, celebrates National Charter Schools Week, May 10 - 16, 2020. The nation’s public charter school communities have risen to the unprecedented challenge of continuing to teach and serve their nearly 3.3 million students during pandemic-related school closures. Their swift transition to distance learning supported by digital platforms and guided by a unified mission of keeping student needs, safety, and educational goals front and center has become a model for educators in all settings.

AAE is proud to celebrate our thousands of members who serve as public charter school educators and staff during National Charter Schools Week. Personal expressions of appreciation including thank you gifts, digital engagement activities, meals, and special recognition and acknowledgement awards will be “presented” digitally by AAE staff throughout the week.

Association of American Educators Executive Director Colin Sharkey released the following statement:

“AAE supports and celebrates the many educators serving in public charter schools. Educators seek the best outcomes for all learners and charter schools provide unique and innovative environments for students and educators. The entire staff at AAE honors the educators, administrators, and countless specialists who have shown boundless resiliency and extraordinary professionalism in surmounting and navigating the current transition to educate our children through uncertainty. We look forward to extending our appreciation through in-person festivities and school visits when schools reopen.”

The AAE Foundation National Teacher Scholarship and Classroom Grant Program has launched a special cycle of COVID-19 Relief Scholarships and Grants for all educators affected by pandemic-related school closures. Applications are now being accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis through May 15, 2020. Application information is at aaeteachers.org/cvgrant.
