Wisconsin Certification Elections and AAE
posted by: Ruthie | December 23, 2013, 07:38 PM

Last week, voters in 408 Wisconsin districts participated in union certification elections to determine their future representation. According to the results, 19 teachers unions decertified. All told,
workers rejected over 70 of 408 school district unions during annual recertification elections.

The largest school districts included New Berlin, Menomonee Falls, Pewaukee, Berlin, and Waterford. Additionally, substitute teachers with the Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association also decertified with 128 of 320 members voting for the union.

While the majority of unions will continue to negotiate contracts for education employees, there are large districts throughout the state that are unwilling to pay high dues for outdated representation and partisan politics. Here at AAE, we believe this historic vote ushers in a new era of accountability for the state’s unions. Teachers deserve to hold unions accountable to their members.

Since May 2012 the Wisconsin Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers-Wisconsin have lost a total of almost 58,000 members as AAE has grown by leaps and bounds in the state. We welcome teachers daily seeking a professional alternative and look forward to continued growth in the Badger State.

What do you think of the results of the election? Have you been affected by union certification elections?

For most, the results are great! What a resounding message that was sent to all! It is wonderful that so many Locals will be represented during negotiations. T his story is deceptive marketing and full of spin. You are painting this organization as an alternative union, but your "deal" offers nothing that a union would. What organization would reserve the right to cancel my membership at anytime. Explain your numbers, please. 19 =70? Does this mean that 19 did not make the vote which added to those who would not play the game =70? The recertification process and the rules were a set up. All those who failed to vote or could not get through to vote because of wrong numbers, names or attached to the wrong local were counted as a "no." These problems occurred over and over because inaccurate information was supplied by districts or entered by the WERC. In what election are those non-voters counted as a no.? Many would have never been elected through this type of process. Lots of locals chose not to play the game and did not even register to take part. How can you call that de-certificaton?

Explain how they are not accountable? How can you question ethics when your membership deal will not help in time of need, makes promises of legal representation and help. From calculations, a member would never get more than $500 from your organization or have anyone with them through a process until the member pays togo to court first.
I know this will never appear on your website since the Terms say you can change or delete anything.
