AAEF Teacher Scholarship Helps Educator with National Board Recertification
posted by: Melissa | February 12, 2014, 08:14 PM

When the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards was founded in 1987, it was with the goal of creating a more rigorous path to teacher certification.  Achieving National Boards is not easy, and for any teacher to be able to put National Board Certified on their résumé is a true accomplishment.

It’s not easy to keep it there either.  Teachers who achieve National Board Certification, must go through recertification on a regular basis.   This can sometimes be a difficult and at times costly endeavor.  That’s why AAE was pleased to be able to help AAE Member Cari Wilson do this very thing.

Last fall, Ms. Wilson applied for an AAEF Teacher Scholarship in order to raise the funds that she would need to renew her National Board Certification.  Of the process, Ms. Wilson said:

“Renewing National Board Certification has helped me refocus and reflect on my teaching. Considering what good teachers do and making sure I am doing this has been a valuable experience. I have become more proactive both in and out of the classroom. This experience has helped me evaluate areas of growth as a professional educator.”

AAEF Teacher Scholarships are designed to help educators participate in activities that help them grow as an educator.  We feel that National Board Certification is one of the many ways that teachers can become better and is a perfect fit for one of our scholarships.  We also give out scholarships for fellowships, conferences, workshops and many other opportunities.

AAEF Teacher Scholarships, along with our Classroom Grants are awarded twice yearly, with our next deadline being March 1
st.  If you would like to apply for an AAEF Teacher Scholarship, you can do so by filling out our online application.

These gifts to teachers are made possible by the generosity of others.  If you are in the position to do so, please consider
making a gift to the Association of American Foundation, so that we can continue to support educators in their classrooms and in their professional growth.

I am currently an Educational Diagnostician in my district. I am also a Nationally Certified Special Education Teacher - Exceptionality Needs Specialists. My certification will expire in 2018. I would love to renew it, but I am in need of financial support. I have been searching continuously for scholarships/grants, and I came across this site. Please help if you can. Thanks
