2105 NAEP Results & Video Summary

Everyone is talking about the release of the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) exam results. Unfortunately, the results tell a very serious story about the state of education in today’s schools.

Known as the nation's "report card," not only did results show that scores across the board lacked improvement, but some of them– including those in math and reading–even declined. This nationwide drop in test scores is a huge disappointment to education advocates and policymakers focused on closing the achievement gap in these core subjects.

Although many argue that a year’s worth of data does not indicate a trend, some are outraged that only a third of 8th graders are actually proficient in these courses placing blame on the controversial Common Core State Standards. The argument is that standardized test scores don't tell us anything significant about student achievement, and that the term "proficiency" is too subjective a term. Many more even point to the deeper divide between white and black students.
