The economic crisis that hit in 2009 is hitting state and local budgets hard, and with the bulk of public education funding coming from states and localities, people should think beyond government aid to help save their schools and teachers.

Campbell’s Soup Company has sponsored Labels for Education, a program that for more than 37 years has provided free educational equipment to schools in exchange for clipped proofs of purchase. Campbell’s recently announced a partnership with Bic and Diamond Food’s Pop Secret to expand the program. Box Tops for Education is another corporate-sponsored program that you can participate in simply by clipping the Box Top logo from products you might use every day. Economic hardship can be seen as a detriment or as an opportunity to cut waste and increase awareness and involvement. Thanks to the efforts of these organizations and others, there are numerous, every day ways we can help our schools.
