To celebrate World Book Day, we have some book recommendations. All recommendation on this list are written by teachers; we think these are books you will definitely relate to!

  1. Teacher Man: A Memoir. Before Frank McCourt became a celebrated author, he taught high school English for thirty years. His memoir of this time is both touching and recognizable to anyone who has ever stepped foot in the classroom.
  2. Sanctuaries: Self-Care Secrets for Stressed-Out Teachers. Dan Tricario is a high school English Teacher and author. In this book he shares insights and strategies for making space in your busy life so you can be the teacher and person you want to be.
  3. The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher’s Life. As an educator himself, Parker Palmer knows that teachers have good days and bad days and that they suffer through their bad days because they care about their students and their vocation. In this book, Palmer helps teachers who seem lost in the bad days to rediscover their passion and reconnect with their career.
  4. See Me after Class: Advice for Teachers by Teachers. In this book, National Board certified teacher Roxanna Elden, has collected the advice and anecdotes of great teachers to help inspire and motivate others in the profession.
  5. Troublemakers: Lessons in Freedom from Young Children at School. Former elementary teacher Carla Shalaby explores the everyday lives of four young “troublemakers,” challenging the ways we identify and understand so-called problem children.
