Each week, AAE brings its members a round-up of what’s happening in education. From big, eye-catching headlines to the stories most papers overlook, we find the news our members really want to see. This week: Coronavirus closes schools across the globe.

This Year, Only 10 Black Students Got Into N.Y.C.’s Top High School - Last year, only seven Black students were admitted into Stuyvesant High School in New York City. This year, only ten Black students were admitted into the top school. New York City’s public school system is the largest in the country, so the acceptance rate is seemingly alarming to those looking at the statistics.

Coronavirus: The lost school year - The fast-spreading Coronavirus has closed almost all schools across the country, with many having no plans to return for the rest of the year. Schools have replaced in-person learning with a virtual classroom, but the effects of the “lost school year” may hurt many students.

Rural School Celebrates Drive Your Tractor To School Day - One Illinois high school knows how to make students feel independent with an annual tradition. The Drive Your Tractor to School Day is a school holiday that the students at South Central High School always look forward to. The holiday is celebrated every February during National Future Farmers of America Week.
