Welcome to National School Choice Week 2012!
posted by: Alix | January 23, 2012, 08:10 PM

This week is National School Choice Week – a national movement of grassroots organizations calling for more educational options. AAE supports National School Choice Week because we support educators in all settings and applauds their individual choices about where they practice their profession.

While school choice is often discussed in terms of policies that benefit students, AAE wants to empower and promote the thousands of teachers benefitting from choice settings nationwide. From the majority of teachers working in traditional public schools, to educators employed in public charter, virtual, and private schools, AAE celebrates teacher choices–in education setting and in professional associations.

As part of the festivities this week, AAE is partnering with other like-minded organization and coalitions across the country for events celebrating teachers. AAE will be premiering our new film entitled, Teacher's Choice, presenting portraits of four American educators who've selected their own path. The film will be showcased at events throughout the week in Indiana, Arkansas, New Jersey, Utah, Colorado, and online.

The events vary from small and intimate gatherings of AAE members and local leaders, to large meetings welcoming educators and community members across particular states. All events are free of charge. Click here to visit our events page and RSVP for an event near you.

"AAE is privileged to support educators in all settings–traditional public, virtual, charter or private," said AAE Executive Director Gary Beckner. "In signing on to National School Choice Week we can shed light on how our member educators are benefitting from school choice across the country."

We hope that you will participate in National School Choice Week along with AAE. Visit our events page for AAE events or visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com for a full list of events across the country.

Early childhood Advocacy
written by Paris minnesota, January 23, 2012

While i do know that there are many organizations out there for early childhood education advocacy, i was wondering how can a person make the neccessary steps in joining a advocacy group? Where would i fit in? How can i make a change in early childhood education? what does it take to be a advocate.
