First Virtual Charter School Coming to New Jersey

For the first time in the state's history, New Jersey is set to welcome their first online public charter school this fall. The New Jersey Virtual Academy Charter School (NJVACS), operating in partnership with the online education company, K12 Inc., has already begun to spread the word about their offerings statewide and currently boasts 300 enrolled students for the fall term. Bully: The Movie

After weeks of protest and high-profile celebrity support, the Weinstein Company announced last Thursday that an edited version of the highly anticipated film "Bully" will be released across the U.S. with a student-friendly PG-13 rating later this month. The movie comes on the heels of an emerging American movement seeking to thrust bullying awareness and prevention into the spotlight after a rash of teen suicides and media coverage. Report: High School Graduation Rates Rise to 75%

According to a new report issued by America's Promise Alliance, the Everyone Graduates Center, the Alliance for Excellent Education, and Civic Enterprises, the United States is making gradual progress in improving high school graduation rates. While the nation's overall graduation rate rose by 3.5% to 75% from 2002 to 2009, about 1 out of 4 students still fails to graduate in four years. That number increases to 40% when analyzing minority graduation rates, signaling that more work needs to be done to prepare our students in a global economy. Continue Reading...
 
Online Resources for Art Teachers

As reported this week on the AAE blog, arts instruction is on the decline in school districts across the country. While we all must adjust to difficult budget realities, the internet allows art teachers free access to an enormous network of online content. Through the use of some new innovative tools, teachers can take online "field trips" to world-renowned museums, or simply supplement their instruction with banks of worksheets or project ideas.
