An Ohio high school teacher recently wrote a letter to the editor regarding her strange connection to several political attack advertisements targeting her husband, a candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives. Jade Thompson belongs to the Ohio Education Association, an organization that is using Jade's own member dues—which she is forced to pay by law—to fund partisan politics.

As student test scores are becoming a greater part of teachers' evaluations, the idea of having an accurate value-added model is essential for educators. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a generous supporter of education in America and is investing $45 million in research to determine best practices in developing a model.

I am a teacher. I love Facebook. And I'm not alone. The combination has prompted the writing of many articles which advise teachers about how they should handle Facebook in their professional life. In fact, my colleague posted an article about this issue in July. However, few articles have spoken to administrators and solid school policy.

Changes are brewing in America's second largest school system and the unions are not happy about it. Last week a preliminary ruling based on the case between the ACLU and the Los Angeles Unified School Board was reached in an effort to combat inequality in teacher layoffs. The ACLU had sued the district over layoff procedures that essentially wiped out the staff at three schools serving inner city minority students.
