After all, how can you incorporate data or statistics into an English or history lesson? The U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools (SIS) Program is here to help.

SIS is a free educational program that uses census data to create engaging classroom materials for pre-K through twelfth grade. Our program includes more than 200 activities and resources that enhance learning in subjects such as English, history/social studies, mathematics, geography, and sociology. New materials are available now for the 2019-2020 school year. These grade-appropriate materials spotlight the 2020 Census and the importance of making sure everyone is counted, especially children.

As an educator, we know you are always striving to do your part to create a brighter future for children. Not only are our activities created by teachers, for teachers, they also supplement your current lesson plans. As a special convenience, all lessons include a teacher and student version.

Get Involved with Statistics in Schools Week: Everyone Counts!

From March 2 through 6, 2020, we’re encouraging classrooms across the country to play a role in shaping the future for their students and schools. By participating in SIS Week, you can help bring awareness to your students and their families by teaching your students about the importance of being counted in the 2020 Census and having an adult in their home complete the questionnaire.

No matter what grade level you teach, each grade band has a featured activity to kick off the week that will explain the 2020 Census in a way that is relatable to your students. From creating a diversity collage to going on a virtual field trip, SIS Week is sure to be a fun, informative week for you and your students!

Kimberley Glascoe is a marketing specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau’s Statistics in Schools (SIS) Program. She joined the Census Bureau in 2015 as a public affairs specialist in the promotions branch where she managed the Bureau’s social media platforms and content. In 2019, Glascoe moved to the Statistics in Schools branch where she is responsible for partnerships and outreach.
