The ‘Fiscal Cliff’ Deal and Education Spending

Following an eventful holiday season, yesterday President Obama signed legislation designed to avoid the "fiscal cliff" and prevent automatic spending cuts across all government agencies. The measure was passed just in time to delay the cuts until March. Federal education programs will be spared from deep cuts, but only temporarily. Continue Reading...

Using iPads Effectively

It’s no secret that iPads and other tablets are infiltrating our classrooms.  Tablets have become the new education gadget that every teacher seems to want.  It’s evident in our own AAE Foundation classroom grant program.  Of the hundreds of applications we get every year, more and more of them are asking for funds for iPads or other tablet devices.

Twitter in the Classroom

Last Wednesday, I went to lunch with my friend Paula and her husband. Paula, an elementary teacher, was currently taking a graduate course on educational technology and had just gotten her first ever smartphone. These two events converged to introduce Paula to Twitter for the first time. We spent some time introducing Paula as to how to use Twitter to connect with other teachers and find resources.
